lines of connection - Roots

I learnt an important lesson when exhibiting in Perth; it is really important to get product shots of all works before going into exhibition because you might actually sell something. Fortunately enough Melissa Cameron (jeweller and curator of the 'Return' show) took this shot for me.

This piece is one of two that were sold. It holds great significance to me for I feel it really brings together so many elements of my practice thus far as a jeweller. Some of the items contained within it were collected nearly 6 years ago along the West Australian coast, whilst others were picked off the streets of Melbourne only weeks before the show. It is symbolic of the roots of where I have come from, and the roots that sustain me now. It is organic and natural, yet so contrived and man made. It was a beautiful piece to make, and rather pleasant to wear. It was hard to see it go, yet befittingly collected by a lady named Coral.
